Shigeru Moriyama

Self introduction and my interests

I was born and grew up in Izumo-City (previously Hirata-City), Shimane Prefecture in Japan. I would like to stay being based on the local area, which is being revaluated in the current mature society. My aim is to specialise in research of energy-related development and employ mainly local people in future.

I work in the fields on weekends. I mainly grow rice in the field of 5,000 square metres (6,000 square yards).
In my spare time, I read books to children at local primary and nursery schools. I was in a volunteering, sports and outdoor club for 27 years and I like this kind of activity. Another important thing to do in my free time is to visit my local shrine every day.

Precepts of Sontoku Ninomiya (a Japanese thinker)

Those who look far gain
Those who look near lose
Those who look far plant cedars for 100 years later
Needless to say, in spring they plant crops that harvest in the coming autumn
That’s why they gain
Those who look near
Don’t even plant crops for the coming autumn, thinking it takes too long
Only care about immediate profit and gather a harvest without planting
Only care about reaping without sowing
That’s why they lose
